Training course in Brussels and Berlin

 

A group of Palestinian students from Ibrahim Abu-Lughod Institute of International Studies at Birzeit University, have participated in a study and dialogue program for prospective diplomats and students participating in the EU class of the International Studies Master program, from  September the 23rd to September the 30th. The training program which took place in Brussels and Berlin was organized by Konrad- Adenauer- Stiftung (KAS), in coordination with its offices in Berlin and Brussels.

Lecture Entitled “The Euro-zone Crisis, the World Economic Crisis and Social Protests”

 

On Thursday October 4th, 2012, The Ibrahim Abu-Lughod Institute of International Studies hosted Professor Alex Callinicos, Professor of European Studies (social theory and international political economy) at Kings College, University of London for a lecture offered within the European Union course. He discussed the issue of the Euro-zone crisis, placing it in the context of the broader world crisis and ensuing social protests.

Roundtable Discussions on “"Concept Note for India Studies " and “The Arab Spring and the ‘Viral’ Revolutions of Our Times

 

On Thursday September 20th, the Ibrahim Abu-Lughod Institute of International Studies held two roundtable discussions. The first was presented by Dr. Nivedita Menon, the Professor in the Department of Political Science/ International Studies, Jawahralal Nehru University (JNU) in Delhi on “the concept note for Indian Studies”; and the second discussion was given by Dr. Aditya Nigam, a specialist in the field of social and political theory who discussed “The Arab Spring and the 'Viral’ Revolutions of Our Times”.

Lecture Entitled: "Sabra and Shatila: One of the Israeli strategies to end the Palestinian Camp"

 

On Thursday, September 27th, The Ibrahim Abu-Lughod Institute of International Studies hosted Dr. Saleh Abdel-Jawad, Historian and Professor of Political Science at Birzeit University, for a lecture entitled “Sabra and Shatila: One of the Israeli strategies to end the Palestinian camp". This lecture was held in memory of the thirtieth anniversary of the Sabra and Shatila massacre and during this lecture Dr. Abdel-Jawad reviewed two documentaries on the heinous massacre that was carried out for three days (from Thursday September 16, 1982 until Saturday September 18).

Workshop Entitled: "Gaza’s Tunnel Economy: Dependence or Independence?”

 

On September 25th, The Ibrahim Abu-Lughod Institute of International Studies (IALIIS) held a workshop at Birzeit University entitled: "Gaza’s Tunnel Economy: Dependence or Independence?” This workshop is the last workshop which is part of a series of workshops on Political Economy of Dependence and Independence in Palestine.

Dr. Raed Bader participated in a roundtable discussion organized by the French Institute for the Near east (IFPO) in Amman on Sunday Sept. 16 2012 and the topic of which was: Palestine and networking: from concept to the case study.

Roundtable meeting on “ The role of the High Commissioner for Human Rights- The Strategic Priorities in the current Phase”

 

On Saturday June 9th, the Ibrahim Abu-Lughod Institute of International Studies hosted Dr. Muna Rashmawi, head of the rule of law, equality and non discrimination department in the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, for a roundtable meeting on “The role of the High Commissioner for Human Rights- The Strategic Priorities in the current Phase.”

News from the Palestinian Archive at Birzeit University

 

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Birzeit University – Ibrahim Abu-Lughod Institute of International Studies – and the Association for the Rehabilitation of the Family (Jama’iyat in’ash al-usra) calling for cooperation in the field of archiving. Signatories were Dr. Munir Qazzaz, Birzeit’e vice president for community affairs and Ms. Farida al-Amad, president of In’ash al-usra.
