The Ibrahim Abu-Lughod Institute of International Studies announces the issuing of its second E-Newsletter, which includes the different IALIIS activities over the last nine months

Participation of Dr.Asem Khalil in a workshop in Beirut about Palestinian Refugees

 

Dr. Asem Khalil, the IALIIS director, participated to a workshop organized by Issam Faris Institute at theAmericanUniversity in Beirut, where the research agenda on Palestinian refugees was discussed. Dr. Khalil presented the work of the Forced Migration and Refugee Unit, and its main achievements and plans for the year 2012.

Position paper entitled “Trapped by Denial of Rights, Illusion of Statehood: The Case of the Palestinian Refugees in Lebanon”

 

The Ibrahim Abu-Lughod Institute of International Studies has recently published a position paper, in collaboration  with Al-Shabaka on “Trapped by Denial of Rights, Illusion of Statehood: The Case of the Palestinian Refugees in Lebanon”, written by Jaber Suleiman. Which  discusses how The PLO/PA bid came at a time of growing struggle by the Palestinian community to secure recognition of their rights by the Lebanese government – rights neglected since they sought refuge there in 1948 – and to overcome their economic, institutional, and spatial marginalization.

Workshop Entitled: "International Aid: A “Necessary Evil” for Development in Palestine?”

 

The Ibrahim Abu-Lughod Institute of International Studies (IALIIS) conducted on Tuesday 28/2/2012 a workshop entitled: “International Aid: A “Necessary Evil” for Development in Palestine? The workshop is part of a series of workshops the institute organizes on the Political Economy of Dependence and Independence in Palestine.

“A new book by Dr. Magid Shihade Entitled Not Just a Soccer Game: Colonialism and Conflict Among Palestinians in Israel”

 

Syracuse University Press has recently published a book by Dr.  Majid Shihade entitled "Not Just a Soccer Game: Colonialism and Conflict Among Palestinians in Israel"This book sheds light on a growing problem of internal conflicts and violence within the Palestinian community in Israel,   with a case study of a soccer game between two Palestinian villages: Kafr Yassif, and Julis which ended with a fight between the fans of the two teams and resulted in the killing of two people, one from each village.

Thesis defense.

 

Under the Supervision of Dr. Ahmad Mesleh, Amani Asmar Defended her Thesis entitled ”Russian-Palestinian Relations After the Collapse of the Soviet Union and its Impact on the Peace Process”

Seyassat Magazine published a lengthy review of the book: "Ibrahim Abu-Lughod : Resistance, Exile and Return. Conversations with Hisham Ahmed-Fararjeh"

 

Seyassat Journal published in its latest issue _ No. 17-18, a lengthy review of the book: "Ibrahim Abu-Lughod : Resistance, Exile and Return. Conversations with Hisham Ahmed-Fararjeh".  The book has been recently translated from English, and is one of the  latest of ALIIS publications in Arabic.
