News from the Palestinian Archive at Birzeit University

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Birzeit University – Ibrahim Abu-Lughod Institute of International Studies – and the Association for the Rehabilitation of the Family (Jama’iyat in’ash al-usra) calling for cooperation in the field of archiving. Signatories were Dr. Munir Qazzaz, Birzeit’e vice president for community affairs and Ms. Farida al-Amad, president of In’ash al-usra.

Birzeit University’s Palestinian Archive Project (BZUPAP) aims to preserve a large variety of documents, written and audio-visual, relating to the history of the Palestinian people over the past century, and donated by individuals, families and popular organizations. Birzeit, as a national university, is fully committed to placing its technical and academic resources at the service of this project, which continually digitizes, places online and makes available a wide variety of documents.

To this end, Birzeit continually seeks out partners within the society who have documents that they wish to preserve for future generations and to share for the edification of the citizenry and the use of researchers.
