Lecture on Policies towards Palestinians in Israel “From Containment to Hostility” Peace Studies and Conflicts Resolution Course

 

Ibrahim Abu Lughod Institute of International Studies hosted Dr. Emtanis Shehada, the coordinator of Political Monitoring project in Mada al-Carmel Center), on Tuesday, April 5th 2011 as part of  Peace Studies and Conflicts Resolution course.  

Seyasat Magazine published report on a conference “Gaza, Palestine, Out of Migration”

 

Seyasat published a detailed report prepared by Dr. Raed Bader, that covers the Gaza conference which has been organized by FMRU at IALIIS, Birzeit University. The conference constituted the solid foundation and motif to think of the current status Palestinians reached after the isolation of Gaza Strip of the West Bank. This conference allowed the Palestinian experts and academics to propose new thoughts and ideas to elevate the Palestinians of Gaza regardless of their political affiliation.

Under the Supervision of a Committee Consisted of Dr. Samir Awad as the Head of Committee Dr. Abd Al-Rahman Al-Haj Ibrahim and Dr.  Yasser  Amouri, Mohammed Rasim Jarrad Defended his Thesis entitled ”The Politics of the European Mechanisms Supporting the Palestinian Authority”

Dr. Asem Khalil participated in a conference on “Constitutional Reform in the Arab Countries

 

Dr. Asem Khalil participated in an international symposium at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law, on the "Constitutional Reform in the Arab Countries." Many experts in constitutional law from the Arab region were present.

Dr. Raed Bader participated in an international conference titled "Africanity in the Maghreb: National Identity towards the "other". Held by the -IRMC-  l'Institut de recherche sur le Maghreb contemporain in Tunis. 

Roundtable about Israel's decision to deport members of the Palestinian Legislative Council from East Jerusalem

 

 

On 20 September 2010, The Forced Migration Refugees Unit (FMRU) at the Ibrahim Abu-Lughod Institute of International Studies (IALIIS) organized a Roundtable in which the Legal Advisor at the Red Cross, Dr. Cordula Droege, Al-Haq General Director Mr. Shahwan Jabareen, and Dr. Yaser Ammouri from the Faculty of Law and Public Administration at BZU have participated.

UNRWA and Palestinian refugees after its 60th anniversary

 

The FMRU at the IALIIS hosted Lex Takkenberg - Chief, Ethics Office at theUnited Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). Takkenberg presented an overview of the UNRWA and Palestinian refugees after its 60th anniversary. 

The FMRU organized a lecture entitled: “Are Palestinian Refugees Stateless? An International Law Perspective”

 

 

The FMRU hosted a lecture by Professor John B. Quigley, President’s Club Professor of Law at the Moritz College of Law, The Ohio State University. The Title of the lecture was “Are Palestinian Refugees Stateless? An International Law Perspective.”

A lecture about Palestinian Migrants in Ramallah, by: Dr. Majid Shihade

 

Dr. Shihade gave alecture about his recent research paper  which looks into the situation of Palestinian migrants in the RamaIlah area. It will examend  the question of Palestinians who migrate to the Ramallah area for work, and what issues they face here, and how would this research complicate further the question of the Palestinian migration and refugees. He spoke about the changes that have impacted the Ramallah area since the 1990s, and how these changes have impacted Palestinian migrants who came to the Rammallah area to work.

The FMRU hosted Roula El-Rifai to speake about IDRC Policies and Projects on Refugees

 

 

Roula El-Rifai a Senior Program Specialist, Middle East Unit at the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) presented an overview of the IDRC focus on Palestinian Refugees and the Middle East peace process. She mentioned the importance of policy papers versus research projects. She further stated that the key research projects are concentrated on compensation, absorption of Palestinian refugees and public opinion.
