Public Lecture on Palestinian Refugee Problem

 

The Forced Migration and Refugee Unit (FMRU) at the Ibrahim Abu-Lughod Institute of International Studies (IALIIS), in collaboration with the Tawasol forum, which is funded by the Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA), conducted a public lecture on Saturday June 15th 2013, on the “Palestinian Refugee Problem.” The lecture targeted the foreigner students who are studying Arabic at Birzeit University, and was presented by Dr. Rana Barakat, the assistant professor at the department of history at BZU.

A new publication for Dr. Magid Shihade

 

Dr. Magid Shihade published a new article in the international journal of peace studies, entitled “On the Difficulty in Predicting and Understanding the Arab Spring: Orientalism, Euro-Centrism, and Modernity”

Public Lecture on “Poetics and Politics of Spatial Practices in the Palestinian Refugee Camps”

 

On Saturday December 15, 2012 the Ibrahim Abu-Lughod Institute of International Studies hosted Dr. Khaldoun Bshara, Director of RIWAQ Center, for a public lecture on Poetics and Politics of Spatial Practices in the Palestinian Refugee Camps”.

Workshop Entitled “European Union: History, Law and Institutions”

 

On Thursday December 13th, The Ibrahim Abu-Lughod Institute of International Studies in cooperation with the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung organized a symposium entitled: “The European Union: History, Law and Institutions”. This event is based on a course offered this semester by IALIIS.

On Tuesday December 12, 2012 the Ibrahim Abu-Lughod Institute of International Studies held a public lecture on “Palestine as a Non-Member State at the UN: The Importance and Consequences”, which included both Dr. Asem Khalil, Dean of the faculty of Law and Public Administration  and Dr. Husam Zumlot, Professor of Strategic Studies at the Ibrahim Abu-Lughod Institute of International Studies.

Roundtable Meeting on “Ethnic Urbanization: The Jordan Valley as a Case Study”

 

On Saturday December 1st, 2012 the Ibrahim Abu-Lughod Institute of International Studies hosted Mr. Chris Whitman for a roundtable meeting on “Ethnic Urbanization:  the Jordan Valley as a Case Study.” Mr. Whitman explained how with the designation of Areas A, B, and C in the Oslo Accords of 1993, Palestinian society has become an urbanized society, specifically in and around the Ramallah and Hebron areas.

Public Lecture on “The Post-War Makeover Fantasy: Neo-Liberalism, A Historicism, and the Political Economy of War to Peace Transitions"

 

On Wednesday November 7, 2012, the Ibrahim Abu-Lughod Institute of International Studies and the Development Studies Center held a lecture on: “The post-war makeover fantasy: Neo-liberalism, A historicism, and the political economy of war to peace transitions", which was presented by Professor Chris Cramer, a development economist from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London.

Lecture Entitled “The U.S Presidential Elections and its Impact on the Palestinian Case”

 

On Tuesday November 6, 2012 the Ibrahim Abu-Lughod Institute of International Studies held a lecture on “The U.S Presidential Elections and its Impact on the Palestinian Case”, in which Dr. Samir Awad and Dr. Lourdes Habash, from the Department of Political Science, spoke about the current presidential elections in the U.S.

Dr. Raed Bader participated in a conference at the University of Jordan

 

Dr. Raed Bader participated in the International Conference held at the University of Jordan – Amman on the 8th and 9th of October on Translating citizenship. Organized by Transeuropeennes and the French Institute for the Near east (IFPO) in Beirut, the conference discussed: What definition of citizenship, Citizenship and the National Issue, Identity, citizenship, community, and finally the question of citizenship and equality.
