Jonathan Whittall
Jonathan Whittall has 20 years of experience working in emergency humanitarian responses, negotiations and conflict analysis. He worked for Doctors Without Borders (MSF) for 14 years, including as Director of the Analysis Department and in managing emergency responses in Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, South Sudan and Libya. Between 2022 and 2025, he was the West Bank coordinator, Deputy Head of Office and then Head of Office for the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Palestine. He has now established KEYS initiative, a Beirut based strategic advisory and political affairs organisation that provides analysis and negotiation support to unlock solutions in complex political and conflict environments. Jonathan has a PhD in Humanitarian Studies and has published in academic journals and is a regular contributor in media on the politics of aid and developments in the Middle East. The focus of his research as a visiting researcher at Birzeit University (IALIIS) is on the histories and contemporary realities of settler colonialism, tricontinental solidarity, multipolar diplomacy and conflict dynamics in a changing global order. He is currently working on a book on Palestine and South Africa
