Public Lecture on The Independence of the Palestinian Central Elections Committee

On Wednesday 24/07/2013, The Ibrahim Abu-Lughod Institute of International Studies conducted a public lecture under the title of “The Independence of the Palestinian Central Elections Committee’s Work” which was presented by the Director of the Media and Project Department at the Palestinian Central Elections Committee, Mr. Farid Ta’mallah.

Mr. Ta’mallah discussed the Central Elections Committee and its work, saying: “the Central Elections Committee is based on the Palestinian elections law and international standards, which form the basis of its internal system. Furthermore, independence, neutrality, professionalism and transparency are considered the primary axes for the principles and policies that are followed by the committee in conducting its work and its management of the electoral process.”

Mr. Ta’mallah added that the independence of the Central Elections Committee springs out of the electoral law which states that this committee is an authority with considerate personality and financial, administrative and political independence. Every employee hired by the committee signs a pledge that commits him to work with neutrality, decency, integrity and to never favor any candidate or political party on the expense of the other. Also not to do any act that would harm the integrity of the electoral process or the neutrality of the Elections Committee and its independence.

The coordinator of the Forced Migration and Refugee Unit Mr. Raed Eshnaiwer said that this lecture comes as part of a series of lectures conducted by the Ibrahim Abu-Lughod Institute of International Studies on the independency and dependency in different political and economic fields. Mr. Eshnaiwer added: “this lecture contributes to raising the awareness of the University students on the work of the Palestinian Central Committee, its mechanisms and the rules and laws that facilitate its work.”
