Honorary Doctorate for 2011

 

Birzeit University granted the honorary doctorate for the year 2011 to: Dr. Walid Khalidi, Mohammad Masrouji, and Mohammad Emran Bamia.

  • Dr. Walid Khalidi: a prominent historian, and an expert in the Palestinian cause. He worked as a professor at Oxford University, the AUB, and Harvard university. He was a senior research fellow in the Middle East Studies Center in Harvard University during 1982-1986. A member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and a founding member of the Institute of Palestine Studies IPS, and the secretary of the Institute since 1963. He has many publications such as:

 

  •           All that remains : the Palestinian villages occupied and depopulated by Israel in 1948.
  •           Dayr Yasin: 9 April 1948.
  •           Defending Haifa and the Problem of Palestine: The Memoirs of Rashid al-Haj Ibrahim, 1891-1953

 

  • Mr. Mohammad Masrouji: A prominent figure in the public work and medicine industry in particular. He established one of the largest medicine factories in Palestine. He showed special interest in Birzeit University, and has been heading Birzeit University Friends’ Committee since many years. Lately, he donated to establish the Media building, which consists of five floors. That was the first donation for the University from A Palestinian lives in Palestine.        
  • Mr. Mohammad Emran Bamia: A Palestinian prominent economist, who established many companies that contributed to the development of Palestine, the most important one is the Aluminum manufacturing company in Nablus. He showed special interest in Birzeit University, which he generously donated, starting with chemistry department in faculty of science in 1995. He contributed to the construction of the Athletic department building which has been opened in August 2006, he fully funded the building of the faculty of Education which has been accomplished in September 2010.
